Even though two files may have different names, they may contain the same information. A photo, for example, can be stored under different names in two different locations on your PC. Keeping two copies of the same photo does not make much sense – it needlessly wastes disk space. Use Duplicate & Same Files Searcher to scan your hard disk, uncover duplicate files, and remove them. The application uses true byte-to-byte comparison to uncover duplicate/identical files that may be stored under different names.

You can easily install this application on a PC powered by anything from Windows 2000 up to Windows 8. You will have to go through a standard setup process: download and run a small executable, follow the setup wizard’s instructions.

The button to start the search for duplicates is in the upper left hand corner of the application’s interface. Click it and you will be presented with a window that allows you to specify where to look and what to look for. You will get to select the folders or drives you want to be scanned, choose what types of files to exclude/include in the scan, and more.

Once the scan completes (it should not take long, but that all depends on how powerful your machine is and on how much data the application has to scan) you will be presented with a list of results. All the duplicates will be presented as a list on the application’s interface. You can now manually check any file you want or automatically check the first/last files. Once you’re done checking the files, you can delete them, move them to a new location, compress them, replace files with hard links, or copy them to the clipboard.
